Induction programs provide the structure that maximizes beginning teacher learning in the context of the classroom experience.

New teachers learn from veteran teachers; schools increase the possibility of retaining strong, well-trained educators; and, most important, student achievement can be elevated.
Components
There are three essential elements of the New Teacher Induction Program:
- Orientation
The purpose of orientation is for the beginning teacher in the district to "learn about how we do things around here". Teacher orientation should focus on four key components:
- The community
- School district policies and procedures
- The curriculum
- The school
- Mentoring
- Goal 1: Is a collaborative model in which veteran and novice teachers work together to acclimate the new teacher to the profession
- Goal 2: To improve student learning by assisting beginning teachers in professional growth
- Induction
provides ongoing process for the acquisition of such skills as:
- Managing time effectively
- Communicating with parents about student work
- Dealing with classroom management issues effectively
- Understanding the requirements of standards-based curriculum, instruction, and assessment
- Using technology as an instructional tool
- Learning how to meet diverse student needs through differentiated instruction
