Waveland Elementary, Rubble

This one is hard to look at; all of the books, all of the schoolwork, all of the money parceled out so carefully and spent so wisely. Here is pushed into a pile, waiting for a front-end loader to scoop it into a dumpster. This picture was repeated many times in the district, but it was never easy to observe. The books could not ever be used. They were wet, swollen, and molded. Bringing them back into a clean classroom meant introducing mold into an environment that officials and contractors had worked hard to sanitize.
