On the wall in the background, above Dr. Stasny's head, you can see the water line. If you look at the books on the back wall, you can see that they have swollen so much they have lifted themselves off of the shelves like some kind of Olympic gymnast. The waters brushed heavy, steel windows aside as they forced their way in and destroyed decades of hard work and a collection of books that will never be replaced. I thought about the librarian who had carefully poured over catalogs and decided which books her meager budget would buy each year. I wondered if she cried when she saw what Katrina had done to her painstaking work. I think I would have.
